Ozone project description

Acronym

Ozone = O3 = Offering an Open and Optimal consumer oriented ambient intelligence environment

Name

New Technologies and Services for Emerging Nomadic Societies

Duration

2002-2004

Goal

The objective of the Ozone project is to specify and implement a generic architecture/framework that will support the effective use and acceptance of ambient intelligence in the consumer domain.

Description

The Ozone project aims at the development of novel concepts, techniques and tools to provide invisible computing for the domestic and nomadic personal use of information technology and improving its acceptability and usability for the average customer. Natural interfaces should support user-centric interaction instead of the current, computer-centric approach. Security and privacy are prerequisites for consumer acceptance of these systems. A final objective deals with the provision of a strong technology base enabling powerful, but energy-efficient, computing. Towards the last of these objectives, TU/e's role in the Ozone project is to develop techniques supporting the development of future ambient intelligence applications through specification and modelling of multimedia applications with computational networks and advanced compiler technology for reduced code size and retargetable code-generation.
