Lech Jóźwiak received his M. Sc. degree in Electronics and Ph. D. degree in Technological Sciences (speciality field: Computer Engineering and Automatic Control) from the Faculty of Electronics, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, in 1976 and 1982, respectively. From 1976 to 1979, he worked at the Faculty of Electronics of the Warsaw University of Technology as a Scientific Assistant. From 1979 to 1986, he worked in the Research Institute of Computers, Warsaw, Poland, as an Assistant Professor and Chief of several Research and Development Teams. From 1986 till now, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Communication Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, where he chairs a Section of Digital Circuits and Formal Methods in the Department of Information and Communication Systems.
His research interests include: system and circuit theory and technology; design theory and technology, including EDA tools; application specific (embedded) systems and circuits; custom computing machines; programmable hardware; re-configurable computing; hardware/software co-design; decision theory, artificial intelligence and formal methods in design; design validation, testing and fault tolerant computing. He is especially well known for his works in quality-driven design, information-driven approach to circuit synthesis, the theory of general structural decomposition, the theory of information relationships and measures, EDA methods and tools, logic synthesis, and heuristic AI search methods.
He is an author of more than 120 journal and conference papers and of few book chapters.
He is a co-founder of the Euromicro Symposium on Digital System Design (DSD) and the Steering Committee Chairman of the Euromicro DSD Symposium. For several years he served as a Plenary co-Chair of the IEEE Symposium on Quality Electronic Design – ISQED. He is or was a programme committee member of numerous international conferences and workshops (a. o. Euromicro DSD Symposium, IEEE Symposium on Quality Electronic Design - ISQED, Forum on Design Languages - FDL, IFIP International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration and System on Chip Design - VLSI-SOC, IEEE International Workshop on Design and Diagnostics of Electronic Circuits and Systems - DDECS etc.).
He is a Subject Area Editor of the Journal of Systems Architecture and of the Journal of Computer Research, reviewer in a number of journals: IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on CAD, IEE Proceedings on Computers and Digital Techniques, Electronic Letters, and editor of some special journal issues.
He is or was a Co-developer and Coordinator of a number of European research and educational projects.
He is a member of IEEE, EDAA, Euromicro and other professional organisations, and a Board of Directors member of Euromicro. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of the IEE Professional Network Embedded and Real-Time System Engineering.
He is a consultant to the American and European industry, Ministry of Economy of Poland and Commission of the European Communities in the fields of information technology, microelectronics and technology development and transfer.
